What Is Placenta Previa?

Why on earth do I mention about this medical condition after haven't posting anything on the blog for the past of two long months. Well, I haven't get my GROOVE yet! To tell you all the truth, I'm practically exhausted on everyday. In my fourth month of pregnancy, I noticed something different with this one. I feel lethargy most of the time. Nak jalan pun rasa berat semacam, as if I'm already eight months pregnant. Then, last two weeks I had a diarrhoea and I noticed some blood spotting. After my regular check up, my gynae confirmed that I have a LOW LYING PLACENTA. On my next appoinment, on 28weeks, my gynae will rule out wether I'm having placenta previa or not.

Definitions

Placenta previa is an uncommon pregnancy complication that can cause excessive bleeding before or during delivery.

Soon after conception, the placenta begins to form. This oval, flat organ provides oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby and removes waste products from your baby's blood. It attaches to the wall of your uterus, and your baby's umbilical cord arises from it, forming a vital connection between you and your baby.

Placenta previa occurs when the placenta attaches to the lower part of your uterine wall, partially or totally covering your cervix. When the cervix starts to open in preparation for labor, the placenta is detached, which can trigger severe vaginal bleeding. Thankfully, placenta previa is nearly always detected before a woman or her baby is in significant danger.

Complications

If you have placenta previa, your health care provider will monitor you and your baby carefully to reduce the risk of these serious complications:

  • Bleeding. One of the biggest concerns with placenta previa is the risk of severe vaginal bleeding (hemorrhage) during labor, delivery or the first few hours after delivery. The bleeding can be heavy enough to cause maternal shock or even death.
  • Premature birth. Severe bleeding may prompt an emergency C-section before your baby is full term.
  • Placenta accreta. If the placenta implants too deeply and firmly into the uterine wall, the placenta may not spontaneously detach from the uterus after delivery — an uncommon condition known as placenta accreta. This can result in severe bleeding and, often, the need for surgical removal of the uterus (hysterectomy).

Symptoms

Painless, bright red vaginal bleeding in the second half of pregnancy is the main sign of placenta previa.

Although some women have light bleeding or spotting during the first trimester or early second trimester, bleeding associated with placenta previa usually occurs near the end of the second trimester or the beginning of the third. The amount of bleeding may range from light to heavy. And it usually stops, but it nearly always recurs days or weeks later. Some women who have placenta previa experience contractions with the bleeding.

Types of placenta previa
There are three specific types of placenta previa:

  • Total placenta previa. In total placenta previa, the placenta completely covers the cervix.
  • Partial placenta previa. In partial placenta previa, the placenta partly covers the cervix.
  • Marginal placenta previa. In marginal placenta previa, the placenta approaches the edge of the cervix.

Low-lying placenta is a term used to describe a placenta that lies low in the uterus but isn't quite close enough to the cervix to qualify as marginal placenta previa. This condition usually doesn't cause signs or symptoms during pregnancy, but it may cause bleeding after delivery.

When to see a doctor
If you're pregnant, seek regular prenatal care. If you experience any vaginal bleeding during your second or third trimester, call your health care provider right away. Your health care provider will likely do an ultrasound to determine the source of the bleeding.

If you've been diagnosed with placenta previa, make sure that any health care provider you see during pregnancy is aware of the condition. Examining the cervix can lead to heavy bleeding.

Am I A Poser Or What

This lately, Dinky Aeisyah has started to to pose whenever I turn on the camera...LOL! I don't know where she's getting the TALENT from but seriously it wasn't from me! Enuff said, I was a late bloomer, I mean really really late! Well, the pose works for her tough :) Don't you think so?

Dinky Aeisyah's first 'official' pose.

This was before we went out to the park. A little stiff I might say :)

On the day, my parents dropped by from their trip to KL. Natural sket!

With her tied up, carrying her toy's knapsack, and her book purse.
On her way to her nursery.

Tudung...Oh...Tudung

I'm prepping Dinky Aeisyah en route to Sri Munawwarah FANATIC! Even though she is wearing an Indonesian version, she looks cute (Sorry! Bragging sket) without looking like a 'bibik'. I bought this 'tudung' from my collegue at the school. Well, too bad SM hasn't made any child friendly selendang! Kalau tak, runtuh lah kedai SM kena serbu. Mr Vediaz has suggested that I sew a tudung for Dinky Aeisyah. Kena tengok yahap kerajinan dulu yer...

"Ini satu jari namanya, kawan-kawan"

Lentuk sket!

Maisy's Year time..."What does Charley catch?"

Well, you can basically sell anything to teachers! I've seen it happens starting from my mom in the 80's! Right now, at my school there is a Vantage 'kutu', Vision 'kutu', you name it. At least, the teachers are saving up for the household items. Today, I heard the funniest purchase ever...

Teacher 1 : Mende yg korang pernah beli kat sekolah?
Teacher 2 : Semua mende lah sampai Pak Abu (her husband) naik tak paham. Hahaha!
Teacher 1 : Ingat tak cikgu ni yadaa yadaa yadaa.
Ustazah 3 : Mesti ingat punyer! Penjual teragung!
Teacher 2 : Paling tak lupa, HANGER pun aku beli! Macam dah takde mende nak beli!

HANGER???? Takpe lah...asal korang happy bershopping!

Introducing...

Introducing...Dinky Boo Number 2!...taken at 11 weeks and the size was 52mm. Keciknyer! I did the ultrasound when I was referring my pregnancy case to Dr Suraya at KSH, Kuantan. Doakan kesihatan for the second ones. Finger crossed...Insya-allah...

Buku Merah Part II

I haven't done the buku merah yet...TENG TENG TENG...Last week's Monday, I went to a Klinik Desa near my school, hoping that I can get my Buku Merah done.

Nurse 1: Cikgu mengajar kat SK yadaa yadaa yerk?
Me: A'ah...
Nurse 2: Cikgu nak datang check up ker?
Me: Saya datang nak buat buku. Sempat tak?
Nurse 2: Cikgu duduk kat sini yer?
Me: Tak, saya duduk kat yadaa yadaa.
Nurse 2: Kami tak buat buku alamat lain.
Me: ????

Since my timetable on Monday is free from 815 till 1105, I drove to Klinik Kesihatan near my house. I arrived there like 930am.

Nurse 3: Datang nak buat apa?
Me: ??? Nak buat Buku Merah.
Nurse 3: Buku Merah yg lama ada bawak tak?
Me: Ni bukunya. (passing the book down). Saya ada kelas pukul 1105, boleh push nama saya tak? (By the time of speaking, the waiting area was empty)
Nurse 3: Tak sempat, buku ni banyak nak kena tulis. Cikgu datang pukul 900 esok lah. Nak buat buku kena datang pukul 900.
Me:??? Takkan tak sempat?
Nurse 3: Nanti lab tutup.
Me: ???
Nurse 3: Kalau nak, cikgu boleh tinggalkan buku lama. Saya tulis dulu. Cikgu cuti, boleh datang.
Me:???

Tak kuasa nak pikir panjang, I left my previous Buku Merah there. I haven't got the chance to do the book yet because, last Sunday, I was at my in-laws. Payah benor nak buat buku merah ni for the second ones. Tapi takpelah...

Happy Sundays

Soo much for a Sunday weekend. The three of us woke up late. Had leftover Big Apple Donuts as breakfast. Macam omputih plak kan! In the morning, I had planned to go to a Klinik Desa nearby to do my buku merah. I arrived like 1100am and told the nurses at the counter about doing the book.

Nurse 1: "Apsal lambat sangat? Datang esok pagi lah, pukul sembilan"
Nurse 2: "Anak dah berapa?"
Me: "Yang ni kedua"
Nurse 2: "Baru dua, tak ramai pun"
Nurse 1: "Tak sempat, dah lambat"

There was like a patient who was waiting at the wating area, a mom who was weighing her daughter, an aunty who was also at the counter and another mom inside the consultation room and there was 3 nurses at that time???

Nurse 1: "Esok je lah"
Me: "Esok saya kerja"
Nurse 2: "Ari ni tak kerja ke?"
Me: "Saya kerja kat Pahang"
Nurse 2: "Dah tu? Duduk kat mana?"
Me: "Taman Geliga"
Nurse 1: "Eh, kami tak cover taman awak, taman awak duduk tu kena pergi Klinik Kesihatan, bukan Klinik Desa"

??? Alahai nurse...saya nak buat buku merah jer...

Then Mr Vediaz drove me to Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Kemaman. They also asked me to come early in the morning, like 900am. I asked the nurses there whether I can come after lunch hour, they said that the lab will be closed by lunch???

Conclusion, will do my buku merah at the Klinik Desa nearby my school, at least I'm teaching their children. Hopefully the nurses at that clinic will have more compassion towards me...

Then, the three of us had our lunch at a small "kedai makan" at Kuala Kemaman. They have the best "ikan panggang". YUMMY! Dinky Aeisyah ate her kari tenggiri sampai licin, I tell you! Afterwards, headed off to Sen Heng to get a new slow cooker. The one that I borrowed from my emak is unusable because the pot was broken.

In the evening, my energy level was at a reasonable rate, so I started to make dinner. It has been ages since I've cooked. Tak larat tau! I cooked "gulai ayam lemak cili api" and "sambal ikan masin kurau". The sambal is daa best sambal ever!

Well, dah lewat ni. Need to sign off. Ciao!

Dinky Aeisyah posed at the kitchen when I was cooking dinner.

YUMMY!

Preggie?

As the title says...and a lot of mommies who are blogging are being preggy nowadays, I pun officially announced that I'm also expecting! That explains why I didn't update the blog for more than a month. I'm having night sickness (ada ke?) most of the time and the vomiting course doesn't seems to slow at all. I also can't drink plain water most of the time even my body needs it because it makes me feel nausea...this pregnancy is not what I have expected based from the time I was carrying Dinky Aeisyah. The first one, I vomitted like twice a day, but with this one it varies, thrice, sometimes 4 times a day, there are also 5. Tak tahan makcik...

I haven't done the 'buku merah' yet. Plan to that tomorrow. Harap-harapnya esok I larat lah nak pegi. Yesterday, I had my case referred to Kuantan Specialist. I picked out Dr. Suraya whom delivered Dinky Aeisyah. My next appoinment will be in April and I have to gulp down 'air gula'. YUCKY! The most horrible thing that they done to a pregnant woman! Thanks to my Ayah who have Diebetes (Ayah, jangan marah ye!). Since Diabetes is hereditary, I am bound to the test for every pregnancy...
